An apartment is a unit of a building, includes bedrooms, kitchen, drawing room, dining space and washrooms. It is a self-contained urban housing project. There are various types of apartments in modern real estate, categorized by size, style and layout.
It is very important to know the types of apartments before buying or renting.
Apartments based on size and layout
- Studio Apartment: This type of apartment has been designed in a single large room that serves as living room, dining space, kitchen without any separation. Only the washroom is separated by wall or blurry glass.
- Single/Double Bed Apartment: Bedrooms are separated from the living spaces. Washroom and balcony are also attached to the bedrooms. Commonly, this type of apartment are popular in Bangladesh.
- Convertible Apartment: This type of apartment is known as a customized apartment. A large space can be divided into individual rooms by movable or temporary materials. Usually, convertible apartments have been developed for office or business zones.
- Railroad Apartment: Railroad apartment is a long narrow space where individual rooms are separated in line, one after another. This type of apartment has been seen in hotels, dormitories, hospitals etc. Railroad apartment houses a large number of people at a time.
- Duplex/Triplex Apartment: This the most expensive apartment; in this type of apartment, living spaces are separated across multiple floors in the same building. If it is separated across two floors, then it’s called duplex; or separated across three floors, it’s called triplex apartment.
Apartments based on building and location
- High-rise: High-rise apartments are mostly found in metropolitan cities like Dhaka, Chattogram ete. A high-rise apartment is an urban housing system consisting of 10 or more floors, each floor associated with 2-4 units. A high-rise apartment is equipped with lift or escalator. This type of building is also known as a tower.
- Mid-rise: A mid-rise apartment is lower than high-rise building, having 6-9 floors with 2-4 units in each. Alongside stairs, lift, elevator are used to access their unit by residents.
- Low-rise: Low-rise apartments consist of 2-4 floors with 1-2 units; only stair is used to access into unit. Usually, low-rise apartments are developed for non-commercial purposes. Low-rise apartments are found throughout Bangladesh.
- Garden Apartment: A Garden apartment is simply a low-rise apartment with direct access. This type of apartment is common in the countryside, but some luxurious garden apartments have been developed as cottages or bungalows.
- Penthouse: A penthouse is a privet apartment, situated at center and peak of a high-rise building. A penthouse featuring luxurious equipment, furniture, pool, gym and a vast privet terrace around.
However, different types of apartments serve various purposes. In modern real estate, you find a variety of apartments based on practicality and affordability. You have to select one of them which one you want most.
